How to apply for Conversation School positions

We currently looking for qualified teachers to work at abc plus English conversation school in Nagoya, Japan.
We are accepting both domestic and overseas applications.

Basic Job Requirements

(A) Necessary Requirements

  1. Native speaker of English
  2. Minimum 3-year college/university degree

(B) Preferred Requirements

  1. Is positive, flexible, hardworking, self-motivated and disciplined.
  2. Has experience leading groups of school-aged children.
  3. Enjoys teaching a wide range of students from preschool to adults.
  4. Is able to plan enjoyable, quality lessons for a variety of class types.
  5. Has a basic understanding of written and spoken Japanese.
  6. Has experience living overseas for 1 year or more.
  7. Has studied at a Japanese university as an exchange student.
  8. Is considerate of cultural barriers and has a genuine interest in Japanese culture.
  9. Has a valid drivers licence.
  10. Meets at least one of the conditions below, (a) to (c):
    (a) Minimum of one (1) year of consistent ESL teaching experience.
    (b) Minimum of three (3) years of consistent teaching experience in a public or private school.
    (c) Qualified with TESOL / TEFL / CELTA certification within the last six months.

Application process

  • Step 1:
    Send us an application package.
  • Step 2:
    Successful applicants will be offered a telephone interview with the head teacher. We will contact applicants for an interview within 2 weeks of receipt of documents. We cannot reply to every inquiry and application, and will contact only successful applicants for a telephone interview.
  • Step 3:
    Successful interviewees will be offered a telephone interview with the director.
  • Step 4:
    After receiving an offer of employment from us, we will request the following documents in order to begin processing your work visa:

    (1) Resume
    (2) Photocopy of passport
    (3) Two recent photographic portraits
    (4) Photocopy of diploma
    (5) Photocopy of valid Japanese working visa if you already have one
    (6) Signed contract


    We will then send two copies of the ABC PLUS Employee Contract, one for your record, and one which must be returned to ABC PLUS. It sometimes takes more than 10 weeks for us to receive the "certificate of eligibility" which you will need to apply for your work visa at the Japanese Embassy in your area. As soon as we receive the document, we will send it to you.

    You must then take the certificate of eligibility to a Japanese Embassy in your country to receive the actual working visa. They will issue the working visa (Status: Specialist as Humanities / International Services) for you. This part of the process usually takes 2-5 business days. All together, the entire visa application process should take about 10 weeks.
